Howdy Friends and Associates: It's that time again! Sharpen the ole pencils, loosen the belts! The Phoenix JC Comancheros are accepting sponsor donations for their 22nd Pony Express Ride. The ride is scheduled for July 1st & 2nd, 2010. The ride is funded strictly through donations. Although no donation is ever refused, each rider is required to secure at least one $200 sponsorship to participate in the ride. Some riders secure many more and actually have become competitive with one another as to who can raise more money. they each have their own story, but most of all they must believe in cause “KEEPING THE KIDS IN OUR SIGHTS AT ALL TIMES”. The riders swear an oath, performed by a U S Postal Representative, similar to the Pony Express Riders of 1860 so they may carry the U.S. Mail. The ride takes just two days starting at Horse’s Help in north Phoenix and passing through New River, Black Canyon City, Bumble Bee, Crown King, Cleator, “Old” Cordes, Mayer, Goodwin, Palace Station, Groom Creek, and the final stretch where the riders are united on the streets of Prescott for the last leg of the ride to the Prescott Rodeo grounds. The mochilas are handed to the Prescott Postmaster in a special ceremony during the rodeo.
Being a community service organization, any proceeds from the early years of the Pony Express event were added to the accounts marked for charities or community service. But since 1996, the Phoenix JC Comancheros have donated the proceeds of that year’s event to specific children focused charities. The recipient for the 2010 ride will be: Horse's Help, Phoenix, AZ Whether you’re a new or returning sponsor, rest assure that your contributions are given to organizations we know will spend them wisely. The Comancheros and Pony Express Riders are always grateful for your generosity. Especially in these tough economic times. Remember your contributions are making a difference in many children's lives in our valley communities.
